I'm a new shooter, so take my review with a grain of salt. I just bought my first hunting rifle, a .30-06, and was looking for an inexpensive scope to mount on it. I bought this one based on the reviews here, so I thought it might be helpful to other buyers/newbies to hear my input. So here goes:Construction: This thing is super tough. It's all metal, including focusing rings. It comes with lens covers, so no issue with scratches and whatnot while walking in the woods. I've read that a couple of people have had issues with the reticle coming loose, but this has not been the case with mine. It looks like it will hold up pretty well. I will say that you should make sure to get the 1 inch weaver rings, as anything smaller would probably cause the scope to hit the barrel.Optics: I'm a photographer, and I have plenty of experience with lenses and whatnot, and I'd say (having never used many scopes before) that for the price you pay, it's pretty crisp. At least up to 12x zoom. Between 6.5 and 12, everything is super clear, but after that, the image degrades a bit and becomes quite foggy.Range: I should mention that this scope has a VERY long reach for most types of hunting. Would I have chosen a shorter range? I'm not sure yet. I'll have to do some more field testing to decide. But you can really "reach out and touch" something with it, for sure. I was warned by some of my hunting-savvy friends that this is probably too much scope for my needs, but it's a good-priced, well-built scope for a beginner, in my opinion.
