I've been going back and forth on riding vs. walking for some time now. On the one hand walking is healthy, on the other I don't necessarily golf for fitness, so why walk. (Sometimes I don't do anything for fitness, so again, why walk?) Given that I hadn't been playing all that much I usually just ended up forking over the cash and riding. Recently I've been getting to play more regularly and this internal debate started all over again. Still, I was having trouble getting used to the idea of a push cart. I'm no spring chicken, but I'm not an AARP member either. I'm just a Dad with a Dad Bod. Still young enough to remember the glory years while also realizing that they are long gone! The only thing that I knew for certain was that I didn't want to carry my bag for 18 holes.Fast forward to last weekend and I got paired up with an older gentlemen and two guys around my age. All three were walking with push carts. Meanwhile, since it was "Cart Path Only" I spent the majority of the round driving down the cart path, grabbing three clubs, crossing the fairway and trying to find and hit my ball. It got old real fast.Anyway, I went home that night and started doing some research on push carts. I'd heard of Clicgear and Sun Mountain, but I can't honestly say that I knew anything about BagBoy before this point. I also had no real preference with regard to three wheels vs. four when I first started looking into pushcarts though I eventually ended up going with a four wheel model since they appeared to have a smaller footprint when folded up and when in use.Eventually I came across the BagBoy Quad XL on Amazon. I immediately liked the price when compared with Clicgear, but not enough to make it a determining factor. The way I figure it, I'm not going to be buying one of these things every couple of years. So if I needed to spend a few extra bucks today to ensure good quality and long term usage I was okay with that.Ultimately, the deciding factor for me was the ease with which the BagBoy Quad could be set up. Check out some videos on Youtube to see what I mean. When I saw this thing deployed compared to the Clicgear and then took into account the price difference, that pretty much made up my mind for me. Now, in fairness, it must be said that I'm sure after a couple of rounds, the Clicgear is probably just as easy to deploy, but I figured why even bother. When I get to the course I'm usually nervous about the round, losing my keys, worried about any number of other things in life, I don't also want to have to worry about looking like a damned fool trying to figure out how to open up his ducking pushcart! But I digress. I had the good fortune of taking the BagBoy Quad XL out on her maiden voyage recently and here are my thoughts:- Deployment was quick and easy, and no fuss.- The compartment/main console helped to keep me better organized throughout the round and helped keep my pockets relatively empty as full pockets are a pet peeve of mine, particularly on the golf course when you are trying to put your glove in your pocket while trying to retrieve you divot tool and/or ball, tee, etc.- The course was wet and muddy today and I had no trouble with stability and she rolled try throughout the round.- I enjoyed the more uprightness of the clubs compared with what appeared to be the more angled nature of some of the other options on the market. All in all, club access was never a problem.- I always hate having to adjust my twisted bag when riding, so the anti-roll feature was a big selling point for me and working like a charm. In fact, I was a little skeptical that the one strap would do the job, but no issues to report on that front.- When the round was over, it was a cinch breaking it down into a relatively small, and definitely light little package. Even my wife who is not always a fan of my golf purchases had to admit that it was much smaller and lighter than she had anticipated. On the minus side...- The one obvious swing and miss to me was the lack of a zipper on the little bag that hangs beneath the handle. Don't get me wrong, I really like the idea of the bag itself. I used it to house my glove and my putter's head cover on nearly every hole. I'm no stranger to losing items like that on the golf course and it's a PITA. All that said, I would have loved to see a zipper or some way to close that bag so that it could possible be used for storing valuables. Which brings me to my next point.- The bungee for the phone holder appears to be legit, but I honestly wouldn't trust it. I think it might make the phone a little top heavy. You are walking and talking and accidentally hit a bump, don't notice that your phone fell out and then spend your Saturday in the Mall looking for a replacement instead of playing golf. It appears that others have had good experiences with it, so I could be totally wrong. I thought I lost my car keys at the golf course once and it was like the most frightening/angriest ten minutes of my life, so I may have a different perspective on this kind of thing.Undetermined...- I did not have any cause to use the umbrella attachment, so I can't speak to its effectiveness. However, I do not anticipate any issues on that front as I am on the shorter side.- I've read some reviews where folks have said that their parking brakes were either ineffective of broke. Given that this was the first usage I can't speak to its durability, but will say that it worked fine throughout the round and I had no complaints. In any event, I will update this review once I've had some more time with it, but all in all I am very pleased with this purchase thus far. I will leave the last star for once I get more rounds under my belt with it.Finally, in the interest of full disclosure I should say that this is the first pushcart that I've owned so I can't really compare the merits of the BB Quad XL to other models. In fact, I'm sure many of the other models on the markets will have similar benefits, but so far so good with this one.UPDATE: It's been two years since I posted my review of the BB Quad XL and I just changed my review from four to five stars. I would say that half of my rounds are spilt between walking and riding. I usually ride when playing with friends and walk when playing by myself. In any event, I have more than enough rounds under my belt with this thing to say that I still really love it. The break feature is still working like a dream on mine and she still rolls true. Very happy with this purchase.
