I bought this Cobra telescopic antenna for my Cobra Roadtrip handheld CB. It performs better than the included mini-whip, but it is not as sturdy as I'd like it to be. It has two parts, the lower part with a coil, and the upper screw-on telescopic antenna. The lower part with the coil is covered with a plastic layer and it seems like the coil under it it hasn't been soldered carefully, so there is a sharp bump under the plastic which might get exposed after longer usage and standar tear and wear. Fully extended, it measures about 27 inches, compared to the 11.5" in its folded state. It attaches to the handheld using its BNC connector which works perfectly for the Cobra handheld, but if you are buying this for some other CB radio with standard antenna connector you will need to buy the adapter. Bottom line - it works, but it could have been designed smoother.Bought this item because I have a hand held radio in my car for emergencies. The original antenna that came with the radio did not allow me a very good range. This antenna definitely extended my range, it is very helpful when you come up on a traffic jam and you are able to listen in on traffic. Has helped me get in the correct (open) lane when there was an accident and a lane was closed. A must have for those radios that do not have an extended range antenna. For the application I needed this antenna did well. Do not be confused by the term "long-range" thinking you will get a signal out 5-10 miles in all conditions. This is still a antenna for a hand-held unit. But it did well and I was able to send and receive over a distance of 2-4 miles under good conditions (relatively smooth land, good weather, etc). The only disappointing thing was the shipping the seller used. UPS messed up twice and sent the package back to the seller. It took me almost a month to receive it regular shipping. For the $11+ spent on shipping and handling I expect better. It works great! I wasn’t getting anything out of my factory antenna. Plugged this one in and now I pick up all kinds of channels.I tend to ignore bad reviews - I've found in most cases that the bad experience is because of user error or not reading the description of the item thoroughly before buying. I ignored the bad reviews for this item - How difficult could it be to make an antenna? This item arrived in 2 parts - the BNC base and the telescoping section... this is not how they are supposed to arrive. I tried shoving the two back together but only ended up causing more damage to the telesoping section. I eventually managed to mate the two and wrapped it generously in electrical tape --- sexy. I will say that I noticed an increase in reception right away - but I have a sad, crooked antenna that I doubt will stay together very long. The issue seems to be the terrible crimp job between the two sections - this is something the manufacture needs to resolve... maybe go for a threaded option or something... I dunno. Even if this arrived whole I imagine I would need to treat it carefully to keep from breaking it.I checked out this antenna with an antenna analyzer. It has a sharp resonance at about 30.05 MHz, which is far from the CB band of about 27 MHz. The SWR in the CB band was so high it was out of range of the antenna analyzer, a RigExpert AA-55 ZOOM. I conclude that the inductor at the base of the antenna needs one or two more turns. It is possible that I got a bad example. It is also true that a handheld antenna's performance is strongly influenced by its surroundings and grounding considerations, so it might work better on a tranceiver than is apparent on the antenna analyzer.. I still think that this antenna will make a decent receiving antenna, but a very bad transmitting antenna. It may likely be worse than the shorter rubber ducky that comes with the tranceiver.i bought this antenna even after reading the bad reviews given to it the same thing happened too me the antenna is crimped on the lower portion of the antenna and not very well at that the thing had a 2 inch wobble at the crimp and stopped all transmitions and reception as it wobbled however i fixed this wobble with a drop of crazy glue at the crimp point my cobra ha ta is now solid as a rock on my midland 75-822 40 channel cb radio i attribute this problem too poor manufacturing wich can be fixed with glue but the manufacturers should take greater pride and ensure owner satisfaction by fixing this problem otherwise this antenna is awsome for a handheld cb works great and after fixing the problem think that this antenna works good and for all you guys out there who dont know what to do about this wobble i hope ive helpped you and for the manufacturer where is the quality control please step it upDefiantly adds a better reception to handheld CB radios. Decent quality and good look/feel. My only issue with this product is that it does not receive NOAA weather reports. I'd recommend this so long as you don't need weather reports or if you do that you keep the original antenna along side this one for when you need the weather reports.five stargreat antenna with booster capabilityPour réception. You should hold it to receive something.Great product and service
